You’ve probably driven through Alice on the way to somewhere else, and that’s fine. But if you stop, you’ll find a town where the best breakfast taco is at a place that remembers your order and the pizza is worth waiting forty minutes for.

This list runs the full range, from a quiet whiskey bar with pool tables to a BBQ spot that sells out of mesquite brisket by early afternoon. I ate a lot of carne guisada to bring you this, and I did it without a single complaint.

The mushroom burger at Big House alone justifies a detour. So here’s where to eat, drink, and crash next time you’re off the interstate.

Attentive service, big parties

I stopped by Big House Burgers on a weekday afternoon, and I left impressed. The mushroom burger was juicy, messy in the best way, and cooked exactly right. I also tried the chicken tenders, and I’m still thinking about them. They were crisp, tender, and hot. The service stood out, too. The staff handled a large group ahead of me without breaking a sweat. Nothing fancy, just solid food done well. I’ll be back.

Alice Western Inn

Alice Western Inn
Highlights
Clean, spacious, cold AC
Private bathroom, separate sink
Great price for two nights
Friendly staff, quiet stay

The Alice Western Inn isn’t the kind of place I’d normally write about, but here we are. The room was clean, spacious, and the AC worked so well I had to turn it down. Private bathroom, separate sink, and a quiet night’s sleep. For the price of two nights, it’s hard to complain. The staff was friendly enough, and I didn’t hear a single noisy neighbor. If you’re passing through and just need a solid place to crash, this works.

I drove the extra miles to Wilkinson Veterinary Clinic, and I’m glad I did. When I had to say goodbye to my old dog, they were kind in a way that felt genuine. They handled her gently, talked to me with patience, and didn’t rush the moment. The price was also lower than I expected, which surprised me. The drive back was quiet, but I knew I’d found the right place. I’ve already recommended them to a friend.

Rockit’s is the kind of bar where you can actually talk to the bartender. The service was welcoming, and the drink list covered enough ground for our group, from beer to whiskey. The music mixed older country with current stuff, so nobody felt left out. Pool tables were available, and we played a few sloppy games. It’s not a scene, just a solid weekday spot. If you want a drink without the chaos, this works.

Texas Brick Oven is worth the wait, and there will be a wait. The pizza comes out fresh, with a crust that’s chewy and charred in the right places. The staff was friendly, and the room felt quiet and cozy. I also tried the spinach dip and a salad, both homemade and clearly not from a bag. The herbs tasted like they came from a garden, because they probably did. This is real food, made by people who care.

Worth the trip

Fruit Revolution is my go-to for lunch when I need something light. The Cobb salad is fresh, and the wraps are solid. But the sweet tea is the real draw. It’s sweet without being syrupy, which is harder to find than you’d think. The service is quick, and the prices are fair. I’ve driven out of my way for it, and I’d do it again. Worth the trip, honestly.
