There’s a smoky, low-and-slow loop that runs through Corpus Christi, and the brisket game here is no joke. It’s not one style, either, a fact I learned by eating my way from Howard’s giant, collapse-in-your-hands sandwiches down to the polished plates at Railroad Seafood, where the bacon-glazed Brussels almost stole the show.

You’ll find everything from old-school pits like The Bar-B-Q Man to spots doing surprising things with pistachio banana pudding, and the only consistent thread is that people genuinely care about the meat. I ate far too much, and I’d do it again.

Here are the best briskets in town, ranked.

Highlights
Generous meat portions every time
Moist brisket melts in mouth
Huge sandwiches worth the price
Jalapeno sausage packs serious flavor
Best coleslaw with apples

I keep coming back to Howard's because the portions are almost embarrassing. You order a sandwich and they hand you something that requires two hands and a strategy. The moist brisket genuinely melts, no chewing required, just sort of a gentle collapse. The jalapeno sausage has a real kick, and the coleslaw with apples is the only slaw I've ever finished without complaint. I've left full, I've left happy, and I've never once felt shorted. That consistency matters. If you measure a barbecue place by meat per dollar, Howard's wins without much argument. I don't know how they do it, but I'm not asking questions.

Highlights
No-frills, true meat focus
Tender brisket, simple seasoning
Classic sides, cold soda
Honest, old-school BBQ joint

The Bar-B-Q Man is the kind of place that doesn't need to impress you with anything but the meat. The brisket is tender, seasoned simply, and allowed to speak for itself. There's no fancy sauce bar, no artisanal anything. Just classic sides, a cold soda, and an honest smoke ring. I appreciate that. The staff seems to know exactly why you're there and gets out of your way. It's old-school in the best sense, a place where the barbecue does the talking and nothing else interrupts. If you want a show, go somewhere else. If you want brisket, sit down and eat.

Highlights
Staff genuinely friendly and helpful
Gumbo is seriously excellent
Tangy sweet sauce stands out
Family-friendly old-fashioned charm
Worth the small parking lot

Mac's Barbecue #Fore makes you wonder why every barbecue joint can't be this pleasant. The staff greets you like a regular even if you've never walked through the door. The gumbo is seriously excellent, rich and dark, the kind of thing you'd order even if you came for the barbecue. The brisket holds its own, but the tangy sweet sauce is what sticks with me. It cuts through the fat nicely. The parking lot is small, and you'll probably circle once, but that's part of the charm. Family-friendly, old-fashioned, and worth the squeeze. I left with a full stomach and a slightly better opinion of humanity.

Highlights
Favorite Millers franchise location
Try turkey and burnt ends
Larger menu, better service
Great staff and delicious food
Beets are a standout side

Miller's Bar-B-Q has multiple locations, but this one is my favorite. The larger menu means you can branch out, and you should. The turkey is surprisingly moist, and the burnt ends are exactly what you hope they'd be, crisp edges, soft centers, plenty of flavor. The staff is friendlier here than at other Millers I've tried, and the service moves faster. The beets are a standout side, which sounds weird, but they're sweet and tangy and pair better with barbecue than you'd think. It's not the most adventurous barbecue in town, but it's reliable. And sometimes reliable is exactly what you need.

Highlights
Juicy, flavorful, smoked perfection
Generous portions, fair prices
Friendly, attentive table service
Quality meats, memorable sides
Worth the drive off 77

Mike Cotten's Barbecue is worth the drive off 77, and I don't say that lightly. The brisket is juicy, flavorful, and smoked with a patience you can taste. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the table service is attentive without hovering. I ordered a plate and stayed longer than I planned because the food kept pulling me back for another bite. The sides are memorable too, not just an afterthought. The quality of the meat is consistent, which is harder to find than you'd think. If you're willing to go a little out of your way, this place rewards the detour. I'll be back, and I'll bring friends.

Highlights
Best BBQ in the world
Ribs fall off bone
Huge Texas-sized portions
Easy, quick catering service
Friendly, professional staff

Bottomless Pit BBQ lives up to its name in the best way. I walked in skeptical, because everyone says their barbecue is the best, but the ribs changed my mind. They fall off the bone without being mushy, and the brisket is solid, smoked properly. The portions are Texas-sized, which means I took half home and still felt like I'd eaten a full meal. The staff is friendly and professional, and the catering side is easy to deal with if you need to feed a crowd. It's not fancy, but it doesn't need to be. Sometimes blunt honesty in barbecue is the highest compliment. I'll be back for the ribs, obviously.

Highlights
Consistent quality across visits
Family-friendly with pet seating
Excellent, patient service staff
Crispy mozzarella triangles standout
Great for large groups

Artisan Haus isn't technically a barbecue joint, but I've learned not to be picky. The consistency across visits is impressive, same quality, same welcome, every time. The mozzarella triangles are crispy on the outside, molten on the inside, and they steal the show from the brisket, which is saying something. The staff is patient and excellent, even when I couldn't decide. There's pet seating outside, which is a nice touch, and the place handles large groups without breaking a sweat. If you want a brisket sandwich but also want a side of people-watching and a pastry afterward, this works. It's a different kind of barbecue experience, but it's a good one.

Highlights
House beer flights recommended
Catfish filet is huge
Brussels with bacon glaze
Generous, shareable portions
Friendly, attentive service

Railroad Seafood and Brewery is a strange place to find brisket, but I'm not complaining. The house beer flights are worth starting with, especially if you like a hoppy note with your meat. The brisket is decent, but the real stars are the catfish filet, which is enormous, and the Brussels sprouts with bacon glaze. Those sprouts are dangerously good, salty, sweet, and porky. Portions are shareable, so bring a friend or plan to box half. The service is friendly and attentive without hovering. I came for the brisket and left talking about the sides. That's not a knock, just a reality. Sometimes the unexpected is the best part.

Highlights
Staff makes you feel known
Sangria ranks among the best
Chicken alfredo haunts your memory
Service feels genuinely personal
Pasta cooked with real care

Mesquite Street Pizza and Pasta Co. is another place where brisket isn't the headline, but I went anyway. The staff remembers you, which is rare and disarming. The sangria is among the best I've had, fruity without being syrupy. The chicken alfredo is the kind of dish that haunts you afterward, rich, creamy, and clearly made with care. The pasta is cooked properly, al dente, not a soggy mess. The service feels genuinely personal, like they actually want you there. I didn't come for the brisket, but I found something better, a place where the food and the welcome make you want to stay longer. I'll be back for the alfredo, and maybe the sangria.

Turkey leg fell off bone
Perfect bark, clean smoke
Brisket fork tender, still bite
Sausage links balanced spice
Best meal in town

Full Send Barbecue is the best meal I've had in Corpus Christi, and I don't say that often. The turkey leg fell off the bone, which I didn't think was possible. The brisket has perfect bark, a clean smoke, and it's fork tender while still holding a bite. The sausage links are balanced, spicy without overpowering. Everything on the plate worked. The service is casual and quick, but the food does the heavy lifting. I left full and a little sad that I had to go home. This is the kind of place you plan a trip around. If you only try one barbecue spot in town, make it this one.

Highlights
Brisket tender, sausage juicy
House-made bread and cobbler
Friendly, top-notch service
Authentic Texas BBQ atmosphere
Loyal customers, regulars welcome

Hoegemeyer's Barbeque Barn feels like stepping back into a time when barbecue was simpler. The brisket is tender, the sausage is juicy, and the house-made bread is soft and fresh, perfect for soaking up the juices. The cobbler is worth saving room for, sweet and homey. The service is top-notch, friendly without being pushy, and the regulars are clearly loyal. You can tell by the way they greet each other. The atmosphere is authentically Texas, wood, smoke, and old photos. It's not trying to be anything else. I felt like a regular even on my first visit. That's a rare gift, and I appreciate it.

Complimentary pistachio banana pudding
Moe works the line
Two plates under $40
Flavorful and filling food
Charro beans worth returning for

Moe's Texas Style BBQ is the kind of place where you get more than you expected. Moe himself works the line, which is a good sign. The food is flavorful and filling, and the charro beans are so good I'd come back just for them. Two plates came to under forty dollars, which felt like a deal given how much food we had. But the real surprise was the complimentary pistachio banana pudding. I didn't know I needed that in my life, but now I do. The service is personal, and the atmosphere is casual. It's not fancy, but it's honest. For the price and the portion, it's hard to beat. I left full, content, and planning my next visit.
